During quiet times while the eagles were sleeping, away hunting, during a down pour, snow storm or while she penned her Wolves of Whitewater Falls™ books, or some other title, she began jotting down stories about her own dogs who accompanied her in the field. She'd write out the funny stories, their mischief, and the mysteries they'd uncover while on their daily outings. After she had filled several notebooks with stories, she started praying up whether she should write one book, two, or a continuing series. With her notebooks full of ideas, short stories, and outlines for new books she prayed, "Lord, I feel inspired by you to write these books, if so, bring on the dogs for the covers." That was her prayer. Immediately, and for about six weeks after her prayer, over a hundred dogs showed up at her gallery with owners who generously posed with and without their dogs, with encouragement and the promise of helping her with her efforts in promoting reading and literacy through her the Bow Wow Detectives® books. With over 150 dogs, photographed for the stories and Photo Traders, she felt God answered her prayers to write this series. That and many of the dogs fit the dog characters in the stories she'd already scratched out while in the field, or came to her with a story of their own to share. Like Sgt. Ruff. Lisa shares, "Not every dog will have their own book, as that may take twenty years to write a volume of 150 books, but every dog photographed will either be a character in book, or have their own Photo Trader Collector Card and forever be enlisted as a Volunteer Bow Wow Detectives® helper in promoting literacy for all ages." For the past few years she spent weekends at her galleries handing out Photo Traders Collector Cards free to kids and adults, and anyone that listened to her tell them about her Bow Wow Detectives® books, or listened as she read excerpts. If you ask her what her favorite story is, she'll probably tell you one story that sticks in her mind about a young boy who came to her store and told her "I don't like books, they are boring." She asked him if she could read a little from one of her stories, and he agreed. After she read him the excerpt he looked at her and said, "I don't like books, but I'd read yours." Her dog story was exciting to the boy and the adults around and his unexpected response touched her heart and it was in that moment she decided she would try and write stories that can cause a change in peoples lives. Canine mysteries that promote good character, while building a little faith and trust in animals, man, and God. Lisa is working on a few book series, but unlike many writers who focus on one book at a time, she prefers to work on multiple books at once as ideas for each series pop up as she writes and she just moves that idea to the series it belongs in. Cat lovers will be happy to know one of those series is her Meow Meow Detectives™featuring feline sleuths unequally yolked with unlikely human companions who solve the mysteries they are written into, one by one. Bow Wow Detectives® Photo Traders, are trading card sized photos of the volunteer dogs who posed to share their message for the kids. Lisa says, "It's not just the kids collecting the cards. I have hundreds of teenagers, adults, and senior citizens who signed up on my mailing list.
